Homily of the priest:
« With happiness, Scripture invites us this morning to contemplate very closely this wonderful exchange, which we are preparing to celebrate tonight, tomorrow and throughout the octave, between Heaven and earth, the Creator and His Creature, the world above and below, a wonderful exchange present in the prayer of Christmas and in every Eucharist, in this prayer said, in a low voice, mixing water and wine: « As this water mingles with wine, for the sacrament of the Covenant, may we be united to the Divinity of the One who wanted to take our humanity. » Wonderful exchange where the Lord is so close to us and makes us so close to Him.
In the1st reading, we have a very beautiful illustration, about 1000 years before the incarnation. At the time, the Lord Himself engraved the 10 commandments of His Law as a Covenant between Him and His people and gave them to Moses, 4 centuries earlier, on Mount Sinai. The people have treasured this deposit of Love of the Divine Will. David had the idea of building a house for the Lord, so that these God-given Laws might be safe. The prophet Nathan approves and encourages him, for « the Lord is with you. » Through Nathan, the Lord tells David that it is He who will make him a home and give him offspring. (…) The Lord becomes the One who will bless him, so that he may build the Temple of Jerusalem, Temple of God for His people of Israel.

The history of the apparitions of Our Lady ofAkita, to remind me of the importance of praying the Rosary:
In the videos proposed on Youtube, next to that of this morning’s Mass in Lourdes, was in mind, this one, while I had not yet prayed the Rosary:
This video is an invitation to pray the Rosary, to offer sacrifices, to ask God for forgiveness for our sins. Fruit of prayers, acts of reparation – religious wiping the liquid that flows on the statue of the Most Holy Virgin Mary – and Marian perfume, which smells so good, during the apparitions of Our Lady of Akita, in 1973: peace and joy!
« In 1975, tears began to flow from the eyes of this Marian statue.
The nuns began to pray. Sister Agnes Katsuko Sasagawaasked God for forgiveness for her sins. When tears began to flow from the statue, the nuns and a priest prayed for the rosary. Sister Agnes Katsuko Sasagawacontinued to pray, while tears flowed. The local bishop came to see and wipe the tears of the statue with cotton wool. 20 people witnessed these 3 successive tears. Usually, there were less than 10 sisters present in the convent. But as it was at the beginning of the year, in January, other sisters had joined, coming from other regional branches, for the New Year’s retreat.
The tearing phenomenon of this statue will be observed 101 times, from 1975 to 1981. The day of the hour was noted by the chaplain and many witnesses witnessed the tearing. There were a total of 2000 witnesses, including religious and scientists, including one who found that these tears were of human origin, as well as the blood, of a stigma in the shape of a cross, which appeared on one hand of the statue, at the same time as on the left hand of Sister Agnes, on the first Friday of July 1973, painful injury that will prevent him from sleeping. The next day, his guardian angel asks him to pray in front of the tabernacle and tells him that the Marian statue has the same wound in the same place, but that of Mary is much deeper than that of Sister Agnes, because Mother Mary of Heaven suffers for all humanity. Sister Agnes is then deaf, but she hears her guardian angel. When Sister Agnes goes to see the Marian statue, it will begin to shine with a very intense light and a voice will speak to her, which she hears, despite her deafness. She understands, then, that it is the Most Holy Virgin Mary who speaks to her – while Sister Agnes has prostrated herself on the ground in front of the statue – « My dear sister, my novice, you obeyed me well by leaving everything, in order to follow me. Does your deafness worry you? You will be cared for this one. You can be sure of that. Does your injury make you suffer? Persevere and pray, to repair the sins of men, now let us pray together. Sister Agnes then said: « Jesus, present in the Eucharist », Mother Mary of Heaven then said: « truly present. From now on, you will add « really ». « Sister Agnes then says a prayer, » which I recognize as a prayer of consecration to the heart of Jesus.

« Our Lady of Akita, during her apparitions, called for prayer and penance, to prevent terrible punishments from falling on humanity, because of the sins of human beings. Our Lady revealed to Sister Agnes that reciting prayers mechanically was useless, that it was important to pray in conscience, understanding the meaning and importance of each word of prayer, and that it was essential to gather to pray and to do so to the maximum of our possibilities. Efforts to pray enthusiastically yield great results. »

In 1984, just before his retirement at a venerable age, the Diocesan Bishop of Niigata, Bishop John Shojiro Ito, in consultation with the Holy See, wrote a pastoral letter in which he recognized as authentically of the Mother of God, the extraordinary series of events that took place from 1973 to 1981 in a small lay convent of his diocese, in Akita, Japan.
Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope [Emeritus] Benedict XVI, recognized in June 1988 the events in Akita as « reliable and trustworthy. » In fact, the Philippine ambassador to the Vatican in 1998 spoke to Cardinal Ratzinger about Akita and the cardinal « confirmed to him personally that these two messages from Fatima and Akita are essentially the same. » Therefore, in Akita we are dealing with an intervention of the Blessed Virgin Mary that the Church has approved as for you in this regard in Lourdes, La Salette, or Fatima.
Only a small number of Catholics know our Lady of Akita, but the message, like that of Fatima, is a specific warning of punishment for the whole world. Punishment is truly a terrible threat — far worse than the possibility of the annihilation of several nations prophesied at Fatima. Akita is absolutely in accordance with the prophecies of Scripture.
The first message received by Sister Agnès Sasagawa Katsuko on June 6, 1973, was a call to prayer and sacrifice for the glory of the Father and the salvation of souls. The second message, on August 3, 1973, was for prayer, penance and courageous sacrifices to soften the Wrath of the Father.
The third message on October 13, 1973, the anniversary of the last vision and miracle of Fatima is as follows:
« As I have told you, if men do not repent and amend themselves, the Father will inflict terrible punishment on all mankind. It will be a greater punishment than the flood, as we have never seen before. A fire will fall from the sky and will make disappear a large part of humanity, good and bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead.

Our Lady of Akita – message of October 13, 1973
In his pastoral letter approving the events of Akita as supernatural, the Bishop of Niigata said: « After the investigations carried out to date, there can be no denying the supernatural character of a series of inexplicable events in relation to the statue of the Virgin venerated in Akita (Diocese of Niigata). I therefore authorize all the dioceses entrusted to me to venerate the Blessed Mother of Akita. »
With regard to the messages, His Excellency stated: « As for the content of the messages received, it is not contrary to Catholic doctrine or morality. When we think about the current state of the world, the warning seems to correspond to it in many ways. His Excellency explained that it took eight years to make this judgment because of the importance and responsibility involved. « The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has given me directives in this regard, »the bishop says, « that only the bishop of the diocese in question has the power to recognize an event of this kind. »
The events of Akita were confirmed by definite miracles, two of which are mentioned by the bishop in his pastoral letter. Although the warning given by Our Lady to Akita is terrible, the message, as the bishop points out, is essentially a repetition of the message of Fatima. Our Lady stressed the importance of the prayer of the Rosary, and above all of accepting from God all that He can send during each day… whatever the suffering… and to offer it as reparation for so many sins committed throughout the world at this time. Our Lady asked in particular for prayers for bishops, priests and religious, and for reparation before the Blessed Sacrament.
Our Lady said: « I have prevented the coming of calamities, as well as all the souls who console Him, by offering to the Father the sufferings endured by the Son on the Cross, by His blood and by His most affectionate soul. Prayer, penance, and courageous sacrifices can soothe the Wrath of the Father. »
For the small religious community where Our Lady gave the messages, she asked that she « live in poverty, to sanctify herself and to pray for the reparation of the ingratitude and outrages of so many men. »
The apparitions and events in Akita, Japan, revolve around three one-foot-tall statues of Our Lady with a Japanese face in the Chapel of the Eucharistic Servants of the Sacred Heart. These supernatural events also involve Sr. Agnès Sasagawa, one of the Sisters of the Convent, to whom Our Lady gave Her messages. The Sister had been very ill, requiring about 20 operations. When the apparitions began, she was almost deaf. On June 12, 1973, when she opened the tabernacle for the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, a very strong light came out of it and came to fill the entire chapel. This happened for three days. When the sister asked the other Sisters if they had seen anything out of the ordinary, they said no.
This strong light also came from the tabernacle on the feast day of Corpus Christi. When Sister Sasagawa told the Bishop of Akita (who was visiting the convent for the feast) about this, he advised her to keep it in her heart. On the eve of the Feast of the Sacred Heart of the same year, Sr. Sasagawa’s guardian angel appeared to him and asked him to pray the decade of the prayer (*) of Fatima after each ten rosaries. In 1973, this prayer was not well known in Japan and the Sister had difficulty understanding it, but the Sisters began to recite the prayer and it has now spread throughout Japan.
(*) O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell, lead to Heaven all souls, especially those most in need of Your mercy. Amen.
On the same occasion as the appearance of his guardian angel, a wound in the form of a cross appeared in the palm of Sr. Sasagawa’s left hand and began to bleed. The bleeding ended on the feast day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The following Friday, the wound bled and stopped the next day. This continued for a month. The Sister’s guardian angel then told her about her in the chapel. Although almost deaf, she heard the angel say, « Pray not only for yourself, but for the peoples of all nations. Today’s world wounds the Sacred Heart of Jesus with so many sins and ingratitudes. »
After hearing this, the sister heard a voice coming from the statue in the chapel: « My daughter, you obey me very well, you have renounced everything, this deafness is a great suffering for your patience, you will be healed it is… a test. Pray in reparation for all peoples. Pray a lot for the Holy Father, for the bishops and priests. »
On July 6, 1973, a bleeding wound appeared on the right hand of the statue of Our Lady in the chapel. Other days, the face of the statue was bleeding. The Sister’s guardian angel told her: « This flow of blood is significant, it will be shed for the conversion of men and in reparation for sins. Devotion to the Sacred Heart added to devotion to the Precious Blood… Other messages followed. About a month after seeing the wound of the right hand of the statue of Our Lady, Sister Sasagawa heard: « My daughter, if you love Our Lord, listen to Me Many people in the world afflict Our Lord, I ask for souls who will console Him, and who will make reparation. The Heavenly Father is preparing a great chastisement for the world. Many times I tried with my son to soften the Father’s anger. I have presented Him with many atoning souls to make amends through prayers and sacrifices. This is what I am asking of you. Honour poverty. Live poorly. You must keep your vows, which are like three nails to nail you to the Cross…. the nails of poverty, chastity and obedience. »
From September 20, 1973, the statue began to sweat from the face to the feet. Tears began to flow down the face. In addition, a very pleasant smell was felt in the chapel. This happened several times in the presence of others, including the Bishop. In all, the statue cried a total of 101 times.
On October 13, 1973, Our Lady gave Sister Sasagawa this serious message: « As I have said before, if mankind does not repent, the Heavenly Father will inflict a very grave punishment on the whole world; a punishment whose magnitude has never occurred before. Many people will perish. Pray the Rosary often. But I cannot prevent the catastrophe. He who entrusts himself to me will be saved. The statue continued to cry and more messages followed. The pilgrims came and many received answers to their prayers. Then, in 1981, Theresa Chon, who was suffering from terminal brain cancer, was miraculously cured through the intercession of Our Lady of Akita. This healing has been well documented by the Father. Joseph Oh from Seoul, South Korea.
In his pastoral letter, Archbishop Ito said that it would have been difficult to believe in a message from Our Lady that was so terrible, if it had not been irrefutable evidence that it was indeed Her. But he points out that the terrible punishment of which Our Lady speaks is conditional: « If men do not repent and do not amend themselves… ». The bishop added that this is a serious warning, although at the same time, the maternal love of Our Lady is perceived through him. In her warning message to the world of the annihilation of much of humanity, She said, « The thought of the loss of many souls makes me sad. »
